Dr. Kumba Yannah Karim Koroma is a Senior Consulting Associate at the Management for Sustainable Development (MSD) Consulting Services Limited, who has on many occasions been engaged in the execution of multiple agriculture and food security related consultancies undertaken by the firm. She is a qualified and dedicated Agriculturist with over 12 years of experience in genetics and plant breeding (including the use of genomics tools for breeding resistance), Biotechnology and Agronomy across institutions in Sierra Leone including the Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute (SLARI) and Njala University. She has worked as a consultant on a series of donor funded interventions including the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), USAID, IFAD, and other international NGOs.

She has extensive knowledge, practical experience and skills working with farmers including the techniques of the operations and management of a farmer field school, as well as in the use of tools/equipment for rice production, and in planning and implementing strategies for enhancing farmer adoption of the practices of modern rice production and harvesting. She has worked as plant breeder especially focusing on rice in Sierra Leone at the Sierra Leone Agriculture Research Istitute (SLARI). She has been engaged in collaborating with farmers and agricultural institutions, in creating disease-resistant varieties to manage and prevalent pests and diseases, and through field trials and evaluations creating high-yield varieties. Her engagement cuts across providing capacity building and extension services to farmers on modern technologies and best practices for planting and managing improved rice varieties, addressing challenges for farmers related to access to resources/inputs, quality seed production, and adaptation to local conditions and climate change.
In addition to her work as a consultant, she is presently a Lecturer and the Head of mutation laboratory at the Department of Crop Science, School of Agriculture and Food Sciences, Njala University. She has published several articles and completed numerous research projects in her fields of interest. Additionally, she has attended as well as delivered multiple training sessions and workshops.
