2. Islamic Development Bank Funded Regional Rice Value Chain Project Assignment through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Sierra Leone (2022–2023)
- Verification assessment of 7000 farmers across project target districts and grouping of the farmers into Farmer-Based Organizations (FBOs) for long-term rural agribusiness sustainability.
- Capacity and training needs assessment of the formulated FBOs.
- Preparation of training manual and delivery of training to Extension Officers (Training of Trainers) for further training of FBO executives. The manual covered topics across modules including inclusive formation and governance of FBOs; farming as a business; farming and agribusiness risks and mitigation measures; sustainable agriculture practices; produce marketing and value-addition; supply-chains in rice farming; partnership creation and management; Planning, implementation, and M&E of farm business activities; records keeping and financial mobilization and management; and agribusiness budgeting and planning.
3. IFAD-funded Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (AVDP) through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) implemented all districts in Sierra Leone (2021).
- Assessment of performance levels of Agricultural Business Centers (ABCs) across all regions and districts in Sierra Leone followed by the selection/recommendation of high-performing ABCs for transformation into viable commercial entities. Capacity dimensions included governance and management; records keeping and management; partnerships and networking; operational and service delivery capacity; human resources capacity; financial capacity; infrastructure/material capacity and maintenance; capacity for marketing and market access; mechanisms for sustainability including gender mainstreaming; and opportunities and challenges faced by the ABCs.

- A countrywide consultation and Development of the Sierra Leone National Agribusiness Policy and Strategy with broad-based sections on SWOT analysis and strategic pillars on Promoting access to land, market, quality agricultural inputs, appropriate technologies, and practices, and enhanced infrastructural development; Promoting inclusive access to finance; Enhancing institutional, legal and regulatory enabling environment; Promoting institutional, human and research capacities of actors in the sector; and Promoting gender mainstreaming (women and youth) in agriculture and agribusiness. Other key sections include the theory of change, implementation arrangements, results framework, and implementation action plan (2020).
