Livelihoods, Food and Nutrition Security, Social Protection, and Resilience to Vulnerability and Climate Change Related Assignments

1. Irish Aid and Action Contre La Faim (ACF) funded intervention through Movement Towards Peace and Development Agency Sierra Leone (MoPADA-SL).

• Participatory Assessment of the Impact of Climate Change on Livelihoods, Ecosystem, Natural Resources, and Well-being in Vulnerable Communities across the North and Southern Region districts in Sierra Leone. The assessment covered Climate Change impacts on household resources; livelihood activities and outcomes; dimensions of ecosystem; sources and access to water and energy; well-being; and adaptation and mitigation strategies (2025).

2. Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) Funded Regional Rice Value Chain Project Assignment through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Sierra Leone (2025 – 2026).

• Preparation of Capacity Building Training Manual and its classroom and field demonstration delivery sessions to Frontline Extension Officers and Farmers (Farmer-Based Organizations) in the Transfer and Adoption of Sustainable Rice Production Technologies and Practices in Sierra Leone. The manual covered topics across modules on climate change and Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) including Climate change fundamentals, climate change in relation to agriculture and food security; CSA concepts, CSA practices and technologies, and climate information services in sustainable rice production.

3. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Food Programme (WFP), UNAIDS, and the Government of Sierra Leone funded assignment in Sierra Leone (2021)

• Vulnerability Profiling Assessment of over 3000 sample respondents of People Living with HIV (PLHIV) for Social Protection (Cash Transfers) Support across all regions and districts for their inclusion into social protection scheme by the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) in Sierra Leone. Key assessment dimensions included income and livelihood status/activities, food and nutrition security status, market access for food, emergency issues (Covid-19/natural disasters), social and health issues, and access to social protection support.
• Established a robust user-friendly database for continuous update to inform immediate and future Cash transfer programming.

4. The DFID/FCDO funded ActionAid International & Plan International Sierra Leone Livelihood’s Intervention Component of Girls’ Access to Education’ and Girls Education Challenge (GATE-GEC) Programme (2019).

• Livelihood Market Study in representatively selected districts across all regions in Sierra Leone to identify economic sectors with the highest potential for the type of skills training, infrastructure, and women enterprises to be developed. The study focused on livelihoods and capacity support, market types and supply chains, trader types/characteristics and relationship with other actors in the market, and trade and sales volume as well as commodities traded and market availability for them.
• Prepared an Activity-based Livelihood Strategic Plan for implementation of the programme.

5. ChildFund International Sierra Leone funded evaluation activities.

• Final evaluation of the ChildFund Girl’s Livelihood Project implemented across districts in the Southern and Western Regions of Sierra Leone (2018).

6. USAID funded Ebola Virus Disease Emergency Cash Transfer intervention support independently implemented by three International NGOs in Sierra Leone: World Vision International, Save the Children International, and Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

• Final evaluation of the USAID funded Cash Transfer based Emergency Ebola Virus Disease Livelihood and Food and Nutrition Security programme independently implemented by the three International NGOs across districts (Port Loko, Kenema, and Kailahun) in the Northern and Eastern Regions of Sierra Leone (2017).

7. USAID and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) funded Development Food Assistant Programme in Sierra Leone.

• Assessment of the Nexus of Agricultural Production, Income/livelihoods opportunities, and Nutrition and WASH across districts in the Eastern, Southern, and Northern regions of Sierra Leone (2016).

8. USAID and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) funded Ebola Virus Disease Emergency Cash Transfer intervention support.

• Mid-term evaluation of the USAID funded Cash Transfer based Emergency Ebola Virus Disease Livelihood and Food and Nutrition Security programme implemented in Kenema district in Sierra Leone (2016).
